AUTUMN

The clover plants push up their leaves
As autumn showers try to con us
But we realize from frosty morns
That autumn is upon us.

For autumn is that magic time
When rose buds face their final fling,
With increasing crispness in the air
That the shorter days will bring.

The summer heat slowly dissipates
And perfect days turn into weeks,
And then gently as some drifting smoke
The autumn colours reach their peak.

Different shades of red unfold
Replacing landscapes of vivid green,
And colours too of burnished gold
That only once a year is seen.

The receding ponds, their waters still
Reflect the sun like glass,
And not a ripple shows until
Some unsuspecting fish swims past.
.
Soon the leaves start floating down
And in a carpet soft they lay,
You know the time is close at hand
When winter soon will join the fray.

Summers gone and autumn’s been,
It’s a season dear to all,
Now another year will slip away
Before the leaves again will fall.

LP, this is one awesome autumnal poem!

I especially love the tranquility of the following stanza:

"The receding ponds, their waters still
Reflect the sun like glass,
And not a ripple shows until
Some unsuspecting fish swims past."

Sending you a warm autumnal hug, Aussie Man,

Linda
