   "The Rubaiyat of Unconditioned Love"
        (An Interlocking Rubaiyat)

He stood on windswept ramparts, battles won,
and gazed out toward the sea and setting sun
with eyes that had seen glory and much pride.
Yet, still his heart belonged to none but one.

She stood close in his shadow, by his side,
with joy that filled her heart and soul inside
and listened to the wind that sang so true
of love forever not to be denied.

‘Twas there beneath the moon’s most golden hue,
while stars began to dance and light anew,
a symphony most magic to behold,
a captivating, hypnotizing view.

They stood together, silent, soul to soul,
while wonders up above did so unfold,
when curtains of the night began to part,
majestically revealed its beauty bold.

He took her hand in his right from the start.
They marveled at the most exquisite art,
and breathed a sigh in harmony so pure,
united soul to soul and heart to heart.

And even though her countenance demure,
she stood among the splendor and grandeur,
with grace that was both noble and restrained,
and confident their love was ever sure.

No greater height nor stronger love attained,
affixed within such two be found again.
An unconditioned love, would yet endure,
to hold till end of time, then still remain.

He fought the blades of steel but not for fame.
He shed blood, sweat and tears just to proclaim
the right to keep her safe from all alarm,
adoring her and have her feel the same.

She bade him wear her token for a charm
a wisp of lilac tied upon his arm.
To all avow her hero none but he,
inspire him and protect him from all harm.

Throughout the battle fought so gallantly
he stood with lilac banner all to see.
With courage and with honor gave his best,
his heart, his soul, his love to set her free.

At end of day, triumphant in his quest,
her champion without peer had stood the test.
Together, heart to heart, their love unbound,
beneath the golden moon their souls were blessed.

The stars smiled down upon them most profound,
proclaimed them loving soulmates as if crowned.
Majestic winds with melodies were sung.
No other more devoted to be found.

Yes, when men were men and women were women such a love could stand the test of time.  Beautifully written, MoonShadow!

Kenneth this is breathtaking
and this particular passage is special to me

I can see her
in his shadow
her spirit always with him
windswept and shadowed with tender love

There you go again, Mister Poet! ~ No, I should say, "Master Poet"! You delight us with your skill at writing in a variety of poetic forms.

Another poetic treasure for my MS Trove! Thank you!
