even hooded the falcon knows where her falconer stands
his breath soughs through time and eternity
a delicate neck turns slowly
feathered curious

she has been well manned
talons crave a glove to curl
a hand to lift the leather

finger rubs finger
she listens
glistening head cocked

she flies
wafting upward draft
free

he casts the lure
head turns
brownblack eye shines
enchanted

which?

freedom
or

alexandrite eyes

but
she has been well manned

The Lady,

This works well.  I like the meaning, and the shape.

There is great fascination within your poem, dear Kate. You write masterfully about this incredible connection between the falcon and the falconer.
And there is more in it than what appears on the surface.
You are one fine writer!

Very beautiful, Kate with a tinge of sadness.  It is not only like you, but you.  I love the falcon imagery.

Lady Kate, you write of falconry, with great insight ~ of both the falcon and the falconer.

With love ~ and understanding ~ from a fellow falcon,

Lady Kate
You touch on a subject that is dear to my heart, falcons and falconry, during the first half of my life I kept many species of raptors including a magnificent perigrine falcon female. A friend trained her and she became so responsive to what was needed that she featured on a wildlife program on television. It was a great thrill for the whole family to see our bird
peform so well. A great hobby but very time consuming. Iloved your poem, write some more.

"Well manned" indeed with love apparent
     gentlemanned, no doubt.

   Beautiful write, Milady. Metaphorically
    and allegorically brilliant.

She has been well manned, indeed.

We are watching as nature turns inward,
even here, in the prairie land.

Buzzards hover over the small city skies;
and a young hawk has taken to our
smaller highland streets.

Somehow it seems,
the nature is dying out, and those
that can fly, now fly inward

so I feed the squirrels, knowing
the raccoons will visit,
along with the possum,

and perhaps others...

so that some life might circle on.

We are strangling our wildlife, slowly,
with our own corruption.

Thank you for this, m'lady.

A wonderful posting.  I could always tell the birds that had been well-manned as they didn't need hooding, and there was somehow a more special bond between the duo.  We had a Lanner when I was young, and only my grandfather, or I could get her to come to the lure.  Can you tell I enjoyed this.
