Where were the stars, my Love, before we met?
Did the Moon not glow in the sable night?
And the Sun - did it then not rise and set
To fill with wonder every passing sight?

The whispering wind lovers' secrets kept -
Yet I heard not its cryptic voice, nor felt
Its cooling breeze upon my face, nor wept
For sorrows fickle Fate to others dealt.

I was deaf and blind, my Love - till your kiss
Unsealed the buried casket of my heart -
Then love, that phantom force, unveiled its bliss
And permanently fixed its fateful dart.

Yes, it was your love that unlaced my eyes
And lit the shaded alcove of my soul -
And now the beauty of the world there lies
Within your own - therein a single role.
