The depth of your heart became your art,
as you bled life in passionate brush strokes,
each hue releasing pieces of you
poured onto the canvas for all to see.
I would wish in my lifetime to feel just once
your fiery passion for life,
the emotional intensity that enraptured your soul,
painted itself in vivid yellows and blues,
intense reds and darkest greens,
releasing life in a myriad of hues.
The art of the heart is synonymous with you, Vincent,
for your life-colors bleed forever true.

In dreams I dance within the aura of you,
‘neath starry skies of midnight blue,
never questioning the majesty
revealed in sacred lights
seen through your eyes...
every color, every hue,
from sunflower yellow to fiery crimson,
through every wondrous shade of blue,
Prussian, darkest cobalts too.

Through your eyes I've seen celestial skies,
felt the art of one who colored agony,
shaded the depths of Hell
seeking release of  pain and suffering,
praying for angst itself to be carried
on swift sure wings of darkest crows
to the outer edges of the universe,
beyond the heart’s visible horizon.

And all the while your heart did overflow
truly with love’s golden glow,
without deceit,
from a deep wellspring of love
no mortal was worthy of receiving.

In a moment of dark lonely despair,
you brushed away life into the thin night air,
while the world was yet barely aware
of your artistic grace.
But time’s passage has revealed
your true beauty to millions, such as me,
to know what the greatest majesty always did see,
that you were the one and only who could be
Vincent.

"How rich art is; if one can only remember what one has seen, one is never without food for thought or truly lonely, never alone."
Vincent van Gogh to Theo(Laeken,15 November 1878Yellow and Blue.)

This 'write' is a wonderful tribute from one fine human being and writer
to another grand human being of another time and place (both 'painting'
marvelous images in their own special ways and chosen media of expression.)

I am especially fond of:

“you bled life in passionate brush strokes(!)”;

“The art of the heart is synonymous with you, Vincent,”;

“In dreams I dance within the aura of you,
‘neath starry skies of midnight blue,
never questioning the majesty
revealed in sacred lights
seen through your eyes...
every color, every hue”;

AND:

“the art of one who colored agony,
shaded the depths of Hell
seeking release of  pain and suffering,
praying for angst itself to be carried
on swift sure wings of darkest crows
to the outer edges of the universe,
beyond the heart’s visible horizon(!)”

serious, long-sustained applause!!

There is so much to take in when reading this work, I know I will be returning to re-read and re-think it. Initially though, I want to congratulate you on capturing the essence of this legendary painter with his own signature colors, painting his portrait using his own palette. It is a moving and sensational tribute beautifully, creatively done.

Found it!  (Though I am sure there was a previous one about him a long time ago as well.  Please tell me what its title was, if I am right, to save me sifting through all the poems in my Midnitesun folder - that is, if you remember the title!).  I love this one too - very much, but the first Vincent one I replied to of yours today remains my favourite.

Thank you for this.

Truly a man who lived within his visions, his work has always humbled me.
