I have known the glory of battle
And the taste of victory, sweet,
Heard the ringing clash of arms
And borne the burden of defeat.

I have carried forth the banners
Of nations and of kings,
Fought for love and honor
And some less virtuous things.

On the battlefield I held my breath
Against the foul stench of death
While my mind recalled the pageantry
That had envisioned only victory.

Then I looked into the eyes of a mother
In the aftermath of war
And chose to come into this world
As a warrior....
Nevermore.

You did a fine job with this one, dear Ida.

Perfectly rendered.

If only all the warriors would put down the weapons!

Love,
Margherita

I challenge anyone to read the first 2 lines of the last stanza without tears coming into their eyes.

Ida, if these could only be the words of all warriors, politicians and criminals - in fact everyone on the planet, what a difference it would make to the world.

Very well said Ida, nice to see you learned your lessons from your previous incarnations. Hopefully we all will eventually and evolve into a more peaceful species.
