A Naughty Thing
~ Linda L. Dowd ~

Once upon a Saturday,
I did a naughty thing.
I tied my little sister up,
with a ball of string.

She broke into gales of laughter.
She giggled all the while.
Saying, “Sis, this is lots of fun!"
~ But then she saw my smile.

It was actually a smirk, you see,
‘cause this was pay-back time.
She'd hacked the hair off my dolls,
and didn't give a dime!

I held a doll up to her face,
and said, "See what you have done!
You sheared off her golden curls!
~ Is that your kind of fun?"

My sister squirmed and sputtered,
and begged to be let go.
I shook my head and let her cry,
because she'd hurt me so.

But then I looked in to her eyes,
and my heart began to melt.
I couldn't cause her any pain,
because her pain I felt.

I explained that all our actions,
do have consequences.
That she should think before she acts,
and not do acts so senseless!

Her pouting face was precious.
I was weakened by her charms.
With scissors I then snipped the strings,
then around her, put my arms.

She promised to be respectful,
and to not touch things of others.
So from her room, she then retrieved,
a tin soldier of our brother's!

She opened up her piggy bank,
and poured out every penny.
Then handed me a tiny wig,
that belonged to my doll Jenny.

"I'm sorry, Sis! I've learned my lesson!
I never will be bad.
I'll never, ever, upset others,
nor make them feel sad."

I hugged my little sister,
telling her that she's the best.
That she really was a good little girl,
who'd slipped up and made a mess!

I brought my dollies out to play,
to show her I still care.
That we could play side by side,
and my dollies we could share.

It's curious that her lesson,
had something there for me.
That dolls and things can be replaced,
but my sister could never be!

loved it Linda~~ I wish my sister had been closer to my age than the 7 years...we never had a childhood relationship nor could my brothers take the place of a sister.

Linda, this is a wonderful. I sure wish my sister and I had been closer. It sure wasn't because I didn't want us to be close. It was her choice.

Naked One ~

I have always been very protective of my "baby" sister. Hers has been a very difficult life but I have been with her every step of the way. I believe that she is a very brave soul who agreed to take on more in this life time than most of us would have chosen from the Other Side. Both she and my youngest daughter have the nicknames of "Angel". They are the real ones. I'm just a pretender.

From time to time I think back to those days when your sister was failing. My heart was very heavy for what you all were going through.

Loving hug,
Linda

Smartest Chick ~

Hi, Sue! Yes, my sister and I have always been very close. I was heart-broken when she moved across the country 3 1/2 years ago. However, last evening she announced that she and my nephew are moving back next April! I'm ecstatic!

I see you computer is hanging on for dear life! It's a real trooper! ~ Just like its owner!

Love to you!

Linda,

You touched me deeply in my heart place.  I had a dream about one of my sisters last night - I have not seen her for yeors and don't know where she is.  Once we were close and I wish I could tell her that I love her.

Thank you for this.  It is simply lovely and heartfelt.

Linda, this is precious. I don't have a sister and only
one brother who is almost 6 years younger than me.
I've always wanted a sister.

It's good to read you again. Hope all is well with you
and with yours.
Huvs and God bless,
Ethel

aziza ~

Oh, Alison, that must be so difficult for you to not know where you sister is and to have not seen her for years. I truly am sorry to learn that.

Perhaps your dream and then your reading this poem, could be signs that she may come walking back into your life again.

Giving you a loving, compassionate hug,

Linda

Warrior Bristo ~

Writing for children is a love of mine. It is even more gratifying when I have read my poetry and performed my songs for them at schools, libraries, parties, concerts etc. Their enthusiastic responses have been so rewarding.

Thank you for that nice reply!

Ethel Mae ~

I was blessed to have both a sister and a brother. I have so many fond memories of us all growing up together. Now we are separated by geography ~ but not in our hearts.

Love to you, my friend!
