Felix is out on I-95
thumbing a ride
after a late night
“engagement”
up in the Northeast.

A trucker picks him up
around Bridge Street.

The guy has a “Jesus Saves” sticker
on his bumper.

“What’s a young boy
like you doing
out thumbing rides
this time of night.”

“Can you let me off at exit 18?”

“Exit 18--hell,
that’s Girard Avenue.

You don’t want to go down there
at this hour.”

“What’s your name anyway son?”

“My name’s Felix mister,
that’s Felix the adventure cat.”

“A child like you could get hurt
down Girard Avenue.”

“That’s where I live mister.
Don’t worry about me,
I’ll do fine—
or maybe you’d like to
take me home mister.”

“Nah, that’s all right.
Here’s exit 18,
good luck,
and have a safe night.”

Bobby

Dear Bobby, Felix is growing I see. Thumbing a ride, well that's always a risk as I learned in my own youth. I love your poem-tale, there are many issues you touched.
One thing I liked is that Felix feels safe in his own neighbourhood, even if to "outsiders" it might be dangerous. The man, despite an apparent strong faith, refuses to bring Felix home, fearing. Felix is the strong one here.

Enjoyed.
Love,
margherita

Margherita,

Thanks for the kind words Hon.

Yes, that's the way it is with thumbing rides.

I was always a great one for thumbing rides, and was always lucky.

Some neighborhoods are misunderstood by the general public.  Where you are always seems safest.

Of course, Felix is one tough kid anyway.

Oh, it's good to see Felix back here again. I always think of him whenever I'm around Girard. Now I'll be thinking of him when I'm on I-95 around Bridge Street, too.

Secondhanddreampoet,

Thanks for the kind words.  You know how it is, Felix gets around.

Glad you enjoyed the trip.

Artic Wind,

Hi new person.  I’m pleased you enjoyed the poem-story.

ArtSolstice,

Felix has been on “vacation”, if you know what I mean.

Felix says hello, he’ll see you on Girard Ave.

Felix was fortunate that it was a guy with "Jesus Saves" on his bumper sticker instead of something like "Satan Rules".

When I was five years old, a car stopped in front of our home and a man beckoned me inside.
I have always been an adventurous spirit and as I was deciding what to do, I was pulled away from the car by invisible hands! I think that the angels were protecting me ~ and they have been ever since!

I enjoy reading about Felix and his escapades!

Earth Angel,

You were lucky.  Guardian Angels should really get around more than they do.

I would not recommend anyone thumbing rides.  That includes Felix.
