I was sleeping so peacefully,
Entertaining a dream
When I was struck in the face
By a wayward sunbeam.
It came through my window
Uninvited and rude,
Just to annoy me,
With that cheerful attitude.
And then as I lay there,
While my thoughts were still forming,
Something hit me again
Without any warning.
And then I realized, that "something"
....was MORNING!

Thank You, Marti. The first few I wrote hardly anybody read so I was getting kind of worried. I put out what I thought of as my best work (like Katherine and The Vision) and didn't get any hits so I was starting to feel like moving on but things have been looking up a little lately, thanks to people like you. By the way I love to read other people's poetry and read most of them and I read everything you write and I enjoy your work too.

the only reason i'm reading this in the morning...
is because i haven't gone to bed yet.

blegh. morning sunlight.

this reads with the rhythm of attacking the snooze bar, only to realize at the end that it's morning.
i love it.
i love the line about being "struck in the face" by the sunbeam. really great image.

The soul is oftentimes a battlefield where reason and judgement wage war on passion and appetite.

Hello,

I really liked your verse - it reminded me of something that I read many many years ago - I think it was by John Dunne, one of the metaphysicals - although, I have to say yours is so much warmer!

Good morning, Ida! Rise and Shine!

I was reminded of a poem that I posted a few years back, with the same title! However, mine lacked the humour of yours! lol
