Across The Threshold Of Time
By Paul Wilson

Bygone era caught in grasp of time
between yesterday and today
I step across the threshold of time
wondering if I should stay

Victrola stands in corner
covered with layers of dust and grime
Wallpaper stained with
memories that stood test of time

Something pulls me back to the past
leaving footprints on dusty floor
Faded pictures on bedroom wall
greet me as I open the door

Cradle stands in corner
where yesterdays child did lay
Dressing table mirror reflects
this child of yesterday

Creaking floor echo’s thru my mind
each step opening another door in time
Wooden horse rocks in the wind
as I remember a nursery rhyme

Burned out candle still in holder
no longer lights the way
Memories of days gone by
light my path today

I turn and walk away
from this shrine to my past
Fond memories always will remain
this visit will not be my last

I do relate,  very well indeed....I have been
going into my past regularly of late,
looking for old friends, etc...can be fun,
can also be frustrating...particularly when
there have been about 4 decades that have
passed by.

Thanxs for the read...

Paul, a very fine piece of writing
and it conjured up a few memories of my own.

I identify with most of your poetry that I have read
~ however, I am moved by it all.

Hey Paullie!

What an appropriate poem for today.

With the passing of Sheriff Harry Lee--I'm feeling oddly displaced yet again. And this poem--I touch the screen to you--it's partly why I've had so much difficulty throwing things away--every thing seems to have a story attached to it.

Good to see you lovie.

Karen...Thank you for your kind words.
I heard about Harry Lee on the news. He was a mainstay of Jefferson Parish and I know many will miss him...Paul

Oh Paul, not today! I am all teary anyway and I feel a nod in my throat reading your deeply touching words.
Gladly I do not "live in the past", but when certain memories grab me the melancholy can be unbearable at times.

Great job you did.

Love,
Margherita
