Barn owls screech –
breakfast caught!
What, mice again?

Jade hummingbird thrums,
slides beak into styles –
red flower shudders.

She-dove mourns loss of mate –
turns in circles,
coos for nothing.

Sparrows squeak,
splash in birdbath –
owls wait for sundown.

It really is nice when someone is so in tune
with nature and can put us there, right in
the middle of all of those creatures..

whinnies in the darkness
calling for a mate.

Enjoyed this my friend. I remember when it was like that around here...especially the owls at night....but the area has 'grown-up' in the last 10 years - hugely and most of the wild life now is teenagers....
