The good Lord found me on a cowranch,
Where I thought that I was hid.
My marriage was a shambles,
So I’m mighty glad He did.

My wife’s heart I’d often broken,
My presence filled my son with dread-
‘Cause he feared his daddy’s actions,
And the things his daddy said.

I sought comfort in my drinking,
But it was comfort never found.
And my language was so vulgar,
That no one would come around.

My heart was filled with anger,
And with bitterness and guile;
So the ranch house knew no laughter,
And it never saw a smile.

But the prayers of God’s dear people,
Kept this fool from going down,
To a place that’s far more dreadful-
Than a coffin in the ground.

Through a little pocket Bible,
And the prayers of my dear wife;
God in wisdom, love, and patience,
Took a hold upon my life.

I never once suspected,
As I opened up the Book,
That my mustang days were over,
In a word, “I’d done been took!”

Talk of Hell just made me angry-
I would say, ‘I’m not afraid!
And I’ll not refuse to occupy,
The bed that I have made!”

Then God’s Spirit, through the Bible-
Stole upon me from above;
And the thing that broke my spirit-
Was the message of His love.

On a cow ranch in East Texas-
Kneeling on my bedroom floor,
God so rearranged my thinking-
My life changed forevermore.

It’s been twenty-five and counting-
Now a father of three kids;
Because God found me on the cow ranch-
And I am mighty glad He did.
