"I'm sorry" Those words sound even hollow to me How does one erase a lifetime of pain? I hope you are now somehow free All these years and I never knew The pieces of the puzzle now fit The story finally makes sense Feeling it in my gut, like I was the one hit It was all for nothing Wasteful, and it did not need to be The image looking back in the mirror Parts of you I truly see in me I'm not even able to fathom What each day must have been like for you Never knowing if you'd wake to tomorrow Paints a whole new shade of blue If given the chance What could I possibly say? You gave me a better life In the end you had to pay A debt so high No mother should have to decide Between her child Or her own life You chose me, one cold April day Now I live a life of luxury While you are buried without even a stone Words do hurt, they do break bones Today I give to you A gift from high above I give you my heart The gift of love "Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away" To my Mom Becky. May you rest in forever peace. You are finally free! |
