Growing tired of the fight
To keep the world outside and yourself pure
Not wanting to cry asleep at night
You let it go, and close your eyes

Losing track of who you are
But with so much less pain to endure
Their sweet appreciation, so unaware
That you are paying a price

Because waking up one day
To find you are caught up in this lure
Want to go looking for what’s gone astray
But since long, you’ve been lost below the ice

~ A never-ending battle for many.

Enjoyed this exploration on self-identity.

Thanks everyone, it was one of those days when I realised what expensive clothes and stupid jokes I was boasting just for success.

I found this write striking.  As our culture makes progress a focus, we all struggle with the measure of success within that framework.

So very often, disregarding the simple pleasures of living as our authentic selves.  Nature shows the framework and blueprint of our intended realm...I think that's what brings balance for me...

I could appreciate the message in this insightful write.

Hello Pop

It is hard to maintain a balance in protecting ourselves from negative outside influances.  It sometimes feels easier, to build walls around that lovely inside person, to protect it. But in doing so, much knowledge and insight can be missed.

I enjoyed your thought-filled poem.

I think that most of us feel caught by that lure you speak of, coming back to yesterdays where joy was ours; I am afraid has passed. Rekindling the once memories and again finding the drive to search is the key. Each day brings us more choices and not matter the circumstance a light can be found at the end of each tunnel.
Enjoyed the read my friend, thanks for sharing.

So glad to read this again, new meaning seeping in...

Self definition lays in the lap of victories hard won.  I found this thought through your works.  Thanks.
