There’s a battered old Stetson that hangs in my closet-
I’ve owned it for thirty-two years.
Me and that headpiece have faced hell together,
It’s shared all my triumphs and fears.

Friends and companions have come and they’ve gone,
I guess that’s the way it should be…
As long as that hat is there, I’m not alone,
A toast to the Stetson and me.

I got it at twenty, in El Paso, Texas…
I was there for the big rodeo.
I thought it was lucky, and maybe I still do-
It helped me make whole lots of dough.

I wore it for years as I went down the road-
A cowboy, just chasin’ my dreams.
It got lot’s of laughs, every time I got throwed,
And all of my “get rich quick” schemes.

Now I’m getting older, my sun’s nearly set-
I sometimes forget where I’m at.
I sigh with relief, and I know that I’m home-
Because that is where I hang my hat.

Missed your poetry and really enjoyed. Sometimes old material things like that special hat can bring forth many memories. Good luck,  and you are still a kid...so much more in store or you. "late"
