Are You Mad?

Have you ever had the feeling
that the ceiling’s caving in?
Have you ever thought about
starving yourself to be more thin?
Have you ever found yourself losing time?
Have you ever felt at one with the divine
and imagined you could fly
if you just jumped off a cliff?
I wonder if you’ve ever felt inferior
and if
you’ve criticised yourself in your head
or felt so low you couldn’t leave your bed?
Do you ever think one thing
but say something else instead?
Have you ever felt your body fill with dread
at the thought of heights or school rooms or a crowd?
Have you ever heard a voice
which no-one else could hear aloud
in your head?
Have you ever craved to harm yourself
black and blue and red,
or hurt another person,
kill your pet or trash your home?
Have you ever felt unbearably alone?
Have you ever found it difficult to concentrate
or seen in your reflection somebody you really hate?
Do your experiences ever seem unreal?
Do you ever find it hard to explain how you feel
to another?
Do you have trouble
relating to your mother?
Have you ever felt your body wasn’t yours?
Or felt down for days and days on end
with no apparent cause?
Have you ever been rejected by a friend?
Or felt so disconnected
that you’ve wished it all to end?
I believe there is a growing trend
for people everywhere
to sink into deepest despair
and feel they don’t fit anywhere
because their mental lives are so intense,
and I’m wondering if YOU get that sense?
or if you know somebody else
who suffers in their mind?
I’d encourage anyone who struggles
to reach out and find
some support
of some sort –
I suspect you’ll find it doesn’t seem so bad
when you realise we’re all a little mad.

don't you think that most of these are  "just life"? excluding the craving to harm oneself or another...

I guess that's my point - it's normalising of "madness" and saying that we're all vulnerable to mental difficulties
