Farewell To Summer
~ Linda L. Dowd ~

Twirling, swirling ~ a leaf spins 'round,
In soft descent down to the ground.
A sign that summer is slipping away
A portent that autumn is soon under way.

Gold crowns of maples kiss cerulean skies,
And as days grow shorter, I soon realize ~
That the changing of seasons, I both welcome and rue,
For it's off with the old and on with the new.

Goodbye, days of summer and to fun on the farm.
I'll miss all your flowers ~ your warmth and your charm.
I await your return as I do every year.
Now I bid you adieu as I wipe away tear.

But all is not over for autumn's my friend.
It's crisp and its cool and a colourful blend,
Of yellow and gold and orange and red,
And the ground will be covered with soft, leafy bed.

The apples have ripened and fallen from trees.
They're pressed into cider ~ a drink sure to please.
Patches of pumpkins add color to fields,
The crops have matured and been reaped of their yields.

Corn roasts and bonfires and rides on hay wagons.
There's the Halloween magic of witches and dragons.
Farmer markets to visit and fun country fairs.
Good times to be had in the fresh autumn air.

Farewell, my Sweet Summer ~ I bid you adieu.
I await your return as I always do.
But there comes a new season and I welcome it in.
Greetings, Dear Autumn! ~ Let the good times begin!

.

While I readily admit to LOVING the summer's warmth ... I will welcome Autumn dressed in all her finery of colors~

The crispness of the season is a renewal that will be pleasantly applauded~

Lovely, hon~

Lindsay ~

Thank you very much. It was a joyful experience
searching for music that would complement my poem. It can be a bit tricky to then synchronize my voice with the rhythm of the music. I'll keep at it and hopefully I will improve with each one that I post.

Hugs to you, LP

Hi, M! I just got a new DELL computer with Vista as the operating system. It has all the bells and whistles, mind you, there are some frustrating aspects to it that I keep having to figure out. I'm no tekky but I'm working my way through them.

Thanks for dropping by!

Fall came a little early, here. I have two big trees in my front yard, which covers the whole front yard. The leaves began falling, before fall was officially here. Wish I had a vaccuum cleaner to vaccuum up all of those leaves. The thought of raking them all up just isn't very appealing. And, I probably won't. LOL!

Take care, sweetie!

Hello Linda ... your voice, along with the beauty of this poem, is a match to the spectacular colors of Autumn. I am also sad to see summer leave us, but am loving the cooler weather, my sweatshirt and the crystal clear blue skies I see above.

Thank you for this piece and my God continue to Bless you and shower you with Grace.

Till later ... Marti

That was magnificent!
And I finally get to put a voice to Earth Angel, and a lovely voice it is.
Well, It’s 3 am, I’m going to go to bed listening to this =)

I feel it’s only fair to allow you to here my voice too...lol....I actually make lyrical hip hop and spoken word (which has taken up most of my poety writing time for the last couple years). Here’s a link to an old spoken word thing I recorded awhile back if you’re interested. just click on the thing that says Hi-fi to listen.

It really pleases me that you enjoyed reading ~ and listening ~ to my poem.

I checked out your recorded poem ~ and it was awesome! It was great hearing your voice as well.

I think it would be wonderful if you were to post the poem and the link to your recording.

I have thoroughly enjoyed 'orchestrating' my recent posts with audio. I would love to hear more poets reciting their poetry.

Giving you a big, welcome-back hug,
