(Urwald by Eduard Leonhardi)

***

Come closer!

***

“Come closer!”
your eyes said
and I heard my voice,
two octaves lower than usual,
muttering “yes!”

I moved into your orbit
and you captured me,
with the authority
of a black hole,
sucking me in.

Urban backgrounds converted
into vast virgin forests
where we breathed each other
in mouthfuls of ardour.

Our hearts drummed
wildly within our ears
excluding any other sound
except the original
sound of creation.

As god and goddess
we took possession
of our very own Universe
performing to perfection
our idea of love’s heights.

Alternatively we were
thunder and lightning
until we gave birth
to the most radiant
rainbow ever seen.

In midst of an explosion
of diamond splendour,
while gazing into
each other's eyes
we knew we were home
and witnessed Paradise.

Margherita, I love the way your mind works

Hi Margherita,
Lovely poem. I just started posting on this site and am amazed at the quality of the poems. I tried a couple of other sites
that weren't very good. I am just trying to find my way around and so far I have read some very nice work.

Throughout this lovely read, I could not stop thinking about all the young people who would be astounded, perhaps scandalized, that anyone past their age would think such a thing, let alone write it. Yet who would we be if we left such feelings behind us as we move on, like footprints in the sand never to be seen again? What a terrible place life would become. Better we should keep the old ones and add to them at every opportunity. That joy would keep us young forever.

Thank-you, Dear, for such a loving reminder.
