(This is another one of my most hardest-sounding poems yet, as part of my small concept poetry set regarding the suffering and recovery from eating disorders.

The song makes many nods to M.C Escher, as I believe coping with eating disorders is like being lost in a dizzying labyrinth illustrated by him, and the title is metaphoric to how those with eating disorders tend to exercise most excessively, where it gets to the point they're not merely running anymore, but running from themselves, and touching on the agony of it all. )

Tour de Stade
By: Noah Eaton

Please leave me alone,
please leave me alone,
let me feel light and airy tonight,
running empty,
running free…

Any sense of control always lifts my mood,
it’s the only thing that lifts my mood,
and I feel everything will be okay,
though recently,
it feels like I’m wasting away…
.
.
.
…like all these days,
I stare at myself,
in the mirror…
.
.
.
…feels like the world is spinning…

…feels like the world is spinning…

…FEELS LIKE THE WORLD IS SPINNING
.
.
.
Cuz the end is always,
merging back with the beginning,
like I’m endlessly pacing up the stairs,
in M.C Escher’s “Relativity”,
what tears me deep down,
is admitting the world is so much more lovely,
when it feels like it’s spinning…

I’VE LOST TOUCH WITH ME,
yet I’ve never felt more in control of me,
and I can’t explain how that can be,
when I’ve just been pacing around,
these same concentric rings…

…just ascending,
and descending,
up,
and down,
and up,
and down,
and up…
.
.
.
…feels like the world is spinning…

…feels like the world is spinning…

…FEELS LIKE THE WORLD IS SPINNING
.
.
.
Cuz the end is always,
merging back with the beginning,
like I’m endlessly pacing up the stairs,
in M.C Escher’s “Relativity”,
what tears me deep down,
is admitting the world is so much more lovely,
when it feels like it’s spinning…
.
.
.
.
.
And all this time,
I thought someone would notice,
I thought someone would mention anything,
cuz if I’ve gone nowhere,
CAN’T YOU FIND ME?

I feel my body convexing,
I feel my body concaving,
endlessly convexing,
concaving,
convexing,
concaving,
and all of my teardrops,
are just little dewdrops,
speckled on leaves,
in mezzotints,
feels like I’m living just half my life,
like I’m living just half my life,
like I’m living just half my life…
.
.
.
Cuz the end is always,
merging back with the beginning,
LIKE I’M ENDLESSLY PACING UP THE STAIRS,
in M.C Escher’s “Relativity”,
WHAT TEARS ME DEEP DOWN,
is admitting the world is so much more lovely,
when it feels like it’s spinning…

…when it feels like it’s spinning,
when it feels like it's twisting,
inside-out again and again,
WHEN IT FEELS LIKE IT'S SPINNING
.
.
.
.
.

Hi, Noah! This poem was painfully realistic. As a nurse who has worked in psychiatry, I have seen up close the trials and tribulations of those afflicted with eating disorders.

You also addressed the control issues that can be a common denominator with some of those who struggle with such disorders.

There are also societal pressures for millimeter perfection as well as the fear of many foods by both young and old alike ~ and by those in between! ~ contaminents, processing, GIFs (genetically engineered foods), additives, coloring, pesticides, hormones, herbicides, bacteria, carcinogens ... the list goes on. No wonder so many become almost paranoid when it comes to what one puts in their mouth.

What works for me is "moderation in all things". I'm a middle of the row, Joe! Otherwise I would go blooming !

A deeply moving piece of compassionate writing.

to you, Noah Angel,

Linda

This is truly dramatic, dear Noah!

I am impressed by your words and I am sure you will be successful in helping yourself and others to solve the eating disorder problems.

Love and hugs.

Dear Noah,

As always your words bring a smile to my face. Although this particular subject is indeed sad and disturbing...I am glad you are sharing your thoughts on it. It needs to be talked about. As always you approach your poetry with empathy and sincerity. So glad to see you.

Take care. Hugs.

Amy
