Like A Ghost In The Corner Of  The Room

Mere thought never entered my mind.

Caustic runnels eating my heart
could not be . . . mere thought . . .
anymore than I can accept –

his death –

whatever the reason
or not.

But withered with them,
            like a ghost
in the corner of the room,

I’m rocking in the chair my husband made -
seldom seen,
less frequently heard,
not touched
since I can’t remember when,

            at least -

not since that Fall so long ago,
when the leaves were yellow, red, and brown,
thought was real . . .

and so were we.

Such a fine poem.  I added it to my library -- and you know, I am a fan of yours too.

~ Wistful, poignant, and nostalgic. Oh, Jim, what a lovely and compassionate piece of poetic expression. You are a marvel, dear poet man.

Hugs with love,

Linda
