Chinese Labor

Ever thought about what's
going to happen in 10-20 years
as the major Chinese Corporations
are forced to raise the wages
of their production workers?
You didn't think that they
would provide slave labor
forever did you?
Like the United States in the
sixty's thru the eighty's
and Japan in the seventy's
thru the ninetys, the Union's,
representing the workers, have
driven up the price of labor,
until China started looking
like heaven on earth to
Corporate America.
Now  most of the
manufacturing of the world,
has been relocated to China.
They say ninety per cent of
the toys shipped into the
U.S. are made in China.
Come a future day, with or
without the Unions,
Chinese workers will
demand a fair wage
for their labors...

Yes, it will end up hitting us in our wallets ~ however, it will lessen the guilt that some of us may feel.

I invest in equity funds that do not support child/slave labour. The return is less, however, I sleep better at night. I also do my best to purchase items that are made in Canada and the U.S. ~ Mind you, there are some infractions there, as well.

Hugs to you, Island Man,

Linda

What are you worrying about? If there was no China, there sure is Vietnam, Bangladesh, Tailand, and again, Iraq. Does bomb force them to beg for food? if you can not feed them free than build a factory and let them earn it.  Chinese Labors work for food, water and Shelter and to be out of poverty. Only the greedy businessmen drink their blood alive. I was told by an owner(an American) of a shoe factory that worker earn 2% of the final price of the shoe. while the 98% was pocketed by merchants.

I buy toys of German made because they are better than American made.  But I have heart for every workers. They all shall have a fair wage.

Chinese cheap goods have brought a comfotable life for American but it will be not forever. Someday, we may have a chance go back to 2$/hour work to produce our own need because we can't afford the high price.

American $ and Chinese Yuan 1:7.5 (half year ago 1:8). You may see it change again.

Think of  National debt. If it was concentrated in a few countries, such as China, Russia and UK. If China sold all it's hold of American bond ( it is hundreds billions!!!) in a blink...it means American bankrupcy. But US might threat to lower the value of Dollars...which means big inflation in US. Worry? We really should. Becasue we want SUV,and war and we do not want work for 3 dollar/hour job. The market today, is hold and supoorted by Fed, and politically international coopration. Nobody wants to see American people without  money because everyone is producing goods for US dollars...only when there is money. where does money come from?

Thanks for responding Mark...
I don't want an SUV...I'm content with my Kia Spectra and would be willing to drive a golf cart to work if everybody promised not to run over me...thinking of a Janis Joplin song from long ago where she sang..."Oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz"...not sure if she was joking or serious...
I don't want war, but it seems to want us sometimes...as when we elected a President like Bush with some hidden agenda's...
I would work for three dollars an hour if the Corporations would lower there products to suit that wage...lets see, that would make homes at about $40,000...and coffee would be a dime...
Yes China is buying up all of our bonds, and could put the weenie to us some day if they so wanted to...militarily or economically and we would make adjustments that would make us or break us...

Well, China has been known throughout the span of human history to periodically take over the world. We may be witnessing the rise of the next great Chinese empire..

Thank you Eagle Scorpion for reading and commenting...more likely paying for the rising...the United States prints Treasury bonds to support our wars and the Chinese buy these bonds to invest and hold onto our wealth...and as we buy the goods of the manufacturing plants we have helped to establish we build the strength of the Chinese government and military...James
