when we speak of the eleven
a dime and a penny size of time
erasing the strings to heaven

in my judah shirt with no buttons
running to my egypts often
but there are no prophets there

only the mothers in mirrors
providing warnings stuffed in cigars
the smoked to be noticed kind

and so another day is unraveled
unzipped and left to dangle
over the piranha's grinning welcome

and you ask me if I fear your god
