When a cold ebony night
swallows a hot sultry day,
a hesitant night star
forces my gaze
in rhythmic sweep
beyond Earth's limited horizon.

I sigh in frustration at Humanity's
capacity for intolerance,
feeling our collective cache of compassion
has disappeared, gone beyond the point of no return;
and with its fall,
each human heart beat
is inexorably doomed.

Yet I am determined to move
our collective heart beat upward,
climb beyond the mountains
of indifference that threaten
to bury us as a species
in deep dark caverns
of fear and hatred.

I crave spiritual replenishment
to sustain me
on this most difficult journey,
yet find the cupboard bare.
Outside, the air is saturated
by clouds of despair
which hang heavy as a soggy blanket.
Hopelessness covers my spirit,
while my feet dangle dangerously
over quicksand.

When such a night sky
swallows the day,
I fear for the future
of Gaia.

I love reading your poetry
You strike a chord within
and make me feel as if you are a
kindred spirit

But, I always feel like you have hope
for our future and the future of this earth.

timely, thoughtful and finely expressed concerns for Gaia and humanity in this 'write'!

I am especially fond of:

"When a cold ebony night
swallows a hot sultry day,
a hesitant night star

forces my gaze
in rhythmic sweep
beyond Earth's limited horizon."

for me, the above is a fine synopsis of the 'Universalist' perspective [if humankind
could switch from the (deadly) historic focus on the 'emphasis of differences'
(in race, religion, nationality; etc.) to a new concentration on the grand-scintillating
cosmos of 'infinite potentialities'...against such a 'backdrop', those 'human differences'
would quickly fade into the realm of the entirely irrelevant by comparison!]

MUCH serious applause!!

Tomtoo ( ) thank you
Alison, oh, thank you. And we are definitely kindred spirits!
Bruce.....that reply is the kind of spiritual sustenance I require to continue climbing over cragged mountains of indifference!

...Saved faster than you can say, "Gaia".

Kacy, I have tucked so many of your poems away, that you'll soon be charging me! No problem! It will have been worth it!

Every line is exquisite and deeply resonates with my own beliefs and feelings.

Both your talent and your soul, are divine.

Love, Peace, & Harmony,

No, no, no, no, no!  There is ALWAYS hope in a world which has a Kacy!  And when she inspires us like this, that hope spreads like melted butter.  Loved the poem, though.

Thanks for the warm welcome back, Kacy.  Glad you enjoyed my enjoyment of your poem.  Popped in for a short while - shouldn't have (time and all that!), but did!  It is lovely to "see" you again.

Give my love to the horses your daughter works with.

Yes, I also sigh but too I know that each member of humanity must and will take responsibility for their own actions or lack thereof.

Fine write, Kacy m'dear!

One of your very best, dear Kacy!

Gaia is in good hands when she meets someone like you and ... I believe many are awakening to love and will take care of this our Mother Earth before it is too late.

I love your determination!

Will keep this!

Love,
Margherita

You expressed some of my own concerns beautifully. Somehow I think there is still hope for our world as long as there are poets.
