Lumpy Oatmeal makes me Crazy!

Hot Fudge Sundae Afternoon

We sang nonsense songs about silly things;
our mouths ringed in chocolate syrup.
Breath still cloying sweet from whipped cream
decorating the top  of their first Hot Fudge Sundae

Car seats snuggled tight side by side.
Little girl eyes shining with the joy of
new books, playing with other children,
and, most important to them -

the magic of lunch in a big restaurant,
with a waiter and silverware
And “don’t stand up and stare
at the people behind us” booths

It’s not hard to please ones so small.
It’s not hard to make a memory out of a few hours,
a bit of a day set aside to spend time
for laughter, knock-knock jokes

and a hot fudge sundae with three spoons.

Alison

Alison, God bless you for this precious, precious write.

This is another , to be sure! I identified with every word! It could have been me and my two daughters you were writing about.

You truly are a sweet poetess with the spirit to match!

I love this write of yours! ~ So, what else is new?!? Duh! lol

Loving hugs,
Linda

You know, this is getting embarrassing! I forgot to actually click on "Add thread to library" in my last reply. I wish there was a way to go back into a previous reply to save a poem without having to post another reply! ~ then the world wouldn't know that I forgot to save it in the first place! lol

Hugs,
EA

aziza, We are all so far apart but so alike  in thought. You hit a few with like memories today.I remember giving our fifth child a day to help him keep his place as the sixth was recently born. I took him to Friendly's and told him he could order what ever he wanted.  He ordered a huge double sundae and I though he could never eat all of it. But he did.I will always remember that particular one special day with him. Thanks for your story. "late"

This is a great story.
(But I still don't know why you don't like lumpy oatmeal??  I like it thick and lumpy with lots of sugar and butter).

You know, there is something to coming home at night, emptying the garbage, doing the dishes, cleaning the cat box - then relaxing to open Pip -- and finding a jewel of a response or a series of responses that just warm my heart.  There's something about people reaching out that is so special.  Each one of you has touched me in this way.

Thank you.
