I Saw Your Wisdom Walking

Landmines of Love:

always tell the truth;
always wear clean underwear;
always call me when you get home.

Parents’ voices ring loud
no matter how old we grow;
within their tombs something
spills out of our throats,
then past our lips,
theirs,      our voices,      that bring us immediately
to childhood once again.

You know how it is. Yeah, you do, too.
No matter your age. You’ve been t/here.

But when you walk down the street,
if you do, at all, when your feet are small,
but your countenance is large in shadow;
it is then that you see their shadows
and remember that some of their wisdom
is walking, with the clap of their footsteps
in yours.

You may, quietly, or not,
talk to yourself, as if their ears
are the only ones that hear you.
Or suddenly, you might look through their eyes,
and everything is strange, unreal,
something from a fictional 1984,
From their time of sci-fi and beyond.

Did you, at our age, then, look backward?
Repetition is a blind record, always thinking
that they were the last, but we are the first,
to record this moment;
how rich our past, no matter their past;
however bleak some future…

except for me…
we say…

and then, we push on.

Naysayers come and go; but,
not all  the believers in
life and government, vote;
they just continue on
in generations.

Something told them,

Believe in Me.

And they did.

~*~

I saw your wisdom walking through
this love.

If we have done it right,
then perhaps some of us
have passed it on.

Some are born, innate,
with the best of all attributes:
common sense.

~*~

[For the readers who were born
in 1986; and for the warriors of
America, today. Thank you.]

I love reading you.  When you write like this, I just shake my head, smile...and say thank you.

after a fall I get back up,
move on 'cause the past is the past and theres no tomorrow if remaining in still waters while the river flows on ~dsmith

"I saw your wisdom walking through
this love."

I had a dream of this and I was gone, and yet some of me lived on.

Thoughtful; ‘thought-provoking’; emotively
powerful  and vastly interesting ‘write’
(so typical of this fine author!)

[it is also a grand “slice of
everyperson’s-life dejavu” penning!]

I am especially fond of:

“Landmines of Love”;

“some of their wisdom
is walking, with the clap of their footsteps
in yours.”;

“I saw your wisdom walking through
this love.

If we have done it right,
then perhaps some of us
have passed it on.”

Serious, sustained applause!!
