Empty Pages

So many times I’ve felt like I couldn’t write
another word, least of all – another piece.
But sometimes words are all you have,
and if they don’t fall between the tears,
if they don’t fill the empty spaces
between heartbeats – what’s left?

So you sit before an empty page.
And later, when you’ve left
and come back,
you sit before an empty page,
praying for the words to fill the spaces
your empty thoughts are leaving.

Then you fill the page with drivel,
because the heart isn’t there anymore,
the words left with her,
only the emptiness stayed,
and the struggle
to fill it with meaning . . .
again.

James...Great write, touching thoughts within the reality of life. I'm sort of in that place you write about between words and teardrops. Enjoyed my friend...Paul

There are those empty pages, but our hearts memorize our emotions and suddenly we feel the "call" to express them.
A beautiful, poignant write.

That page can't stay blank for long. A poet has to write ~ even if it is "drivel" at times. The words just have to get out!

You filled your page with some interesting thoughts that many of your readers are sure to identify with. I know that I am one who did.

Loving hug,
Linda

It's when you can't write at all that I would worry some.  You expressed some very deep emotions here, Jimmy, I surely would not call it drivel.  Hang in there.   ....jo

Jimmy dear friend, you have written what I have felt so many times, and done it so very well.  It is good to find your words here today dear friend.

James...we all feel this way from time to time but as poets we have no choice but to go on...for it is our words sometimes that give us life

I cannot think of any reader who might see this,
that cannot empathize with ever word.

And its brevity spoke volumes...

that's so true jw, and sometimes I just don't even want to "fill" a page and just read those who have more to say.

I've written enough drivel to restock the Library of Congress, should they ever lose every document they store. *G*

Excellent write! *S*

Although this is not a personal expression in your poem, your insight is the truth of what emptiness does.  It takes so much strength just to put one foot in front of the other, and the courage to focus on life to bring back its gifts and song, especially without a loved one.
