It is a breathless form
Moving as does the line at edge of shade under tree
To retreat and die with moon
Be reborn upon a sunrise to travel once more
From long gentle traces upon the day
To shortened pace where it would hide
With some deep trespass of desire
Only to grow a long darker beard and blend
Among the faces of foreigners that peer
Owl eyed among the leavings and comings

We once laughed within the hidden door
As in the alley we stood gathered amid the arms and tangles
That was the lust of being young
And caressed the firm breast of experience
Always in a heat to consume so much more
Than we thought we could hold

Innocence became the threads we tied to finger’s end
Making dance with jerky steps the puppet hearts
Half grinning to amuse
In a half scoured rake of eye upon the clock
We learned to march along
Single file upon the edge of curb a teeter of will
That we not fall too hard and end the day
As invalids or crippled turbans upon a sweating brow
That labored in the sun
Growing old and tan
Our worn faces but a white reflection in dark mirror
Dressed with fine black bunting to mourn
An err
Of windows opened too far

Or Old beggars pleading alms to ease
The emptiness of palms

You traced experience between the bricks
Leaving mortar lines another poem of grace
Other eyes might read or lovers as might we have been
Should god or Allah decided an age had passed
And the wormwood veins of time had collapsed
To leave that moment more
If in a kiss
Or the way my hand might follow the soft hip
You leaned into the noise

Then leaped with both arms outstretched
Catching a furrowed wind
Wishing wings to marry nude the clouds
so you might scream your own pleasure
In a soft whisper of sighs

I watched your thighs
As you walked with your back to me
And thought them wrapped around me
As I pulled instead the length of scarf around my neck
Then watched an old Italian man toddle across your path
His dog in tow amid the wreck of pedestrians

It is a breathless form
Always moving as might the very edge of shadows

Born within

Such memories can keep you warm
on a cold night.

Hello old friend,

You have not lost your touch -- one can always count on bit of meditation flowing through your work and always count on passion.
