I watch you grow
   each day,
embracing a world
sometimes cold

lacking in luster
of gleam and shine

clawing and scratching
white washed surfaces
coated with the hypocrisy
of faces   contorted

those knowing not heart.....

It is only greed
they suffer from,
endowing themselves
in lies

fulfilling a need

for their next fix

obtaining a thrill
inflicting their will;

upon the weak
upon the meek

and you...

regard not
what the world
throws your way...

come what may

I watch you grow

  each day

     stronger,

          indomitable

                     the will to survive.

Bullies in forms undistinguishable
cheat and label, lying subtle
feel coarse liquid pouring down
swallow bitter gall.

Damn it all, bereft of solemn promises
fading away rapid
gone like the clouds,
away from tainted smiles
of hidden daggers
firm handshake, another trap
hypocrites all, drowning

Yes ... ... seen them all

youre very good ..an amazing soul.. in one of my poems i wrote:
like circus folk behind thier booth
a yellow grin of snagled tooth
round and round she goes
when will she stop nobody knows.....
for some reason this write of yours made me think of that.. i love your work

So much power in your writing - and you write so well.  Often, Donna, you reach in and touch me deep inside.

Thank you.

Wow. I agree, this is powerful, Donna. I also enjoyed the format and flow in this with the sequential rhymes centred part way through. Nicely done, much enjoyed this.

PS. I like your dog in your picture too!

Best wishes and hugs,
/Kit

I smile when I read your replies and thank you each for in them I am blessed.  This is a personal favorite to me because it was originally written as I observed my daughter becoming a strong individual (tho' sometimes stubborn) and that was the word that popped into my head and this was the outcome of that thought.

Thank you, each.  I am thankful for the touch here.

Ya'll are just great.
