Potty Mouth
~ Linda L. Dowd ~

Betty had a potty mouth,
She spewed "F" words every day,
Offending folks with her profanity,
Heeding not what they did say.

She walked up to her pastor,
And let the bad words fly.
She laughed herself silly
As his eyes grew big as pies!

One day she shocked her teacher,
With her vocabulary rare.
Miss Perkins flipped her curly wig,
~ And she was bald under there!

The doctor told the little girl,
"Stick out your tongue, say "Aww",
But instead she spit out expletives,
And he dropped his gaping jaw!

Her Dad was sad ~ but then grew mad,
And he finally hit the roof!
With soap he washed her potty mouth,
Because she was uncouth.

Some kids thought little Betty,
Was kinda neat and cool.
And she grew in popularity,
As she swore all through the school!

Her Mom was such a worrywart,
And knew not what to do.
She hoped this “F”-ing stage would pass,
As her darling daughter grew.

But granny was so proud of her,
Betty brightened up her days.
By spouting words so colorful,
She painted away life's grays!

.

I do so know what you mean! When my daughter was two, she loved toy trucks! (I know, you would have thought that a plush, stuffed cherub would have been the toy of choice! lol) Anyhoo, whenever she'd see a toy truck in a store, she' d yell the "F" word out repeatedly because she couldn't pronounce "truck"! Sheeesh! ~ but she was so darn adorable! Fortunately, after some 'divine' intervention, she managed to get her tongue around her "r's". lol

Okay, I have a confession! When I was 5 years old, I was running around the house playing cowboys and Indians with my brother as we were watching a Western on TV. When my Dad changed the channel to a football game, I apparently stomped my foot and yelled out the "F" word! My Dad darn near lost it! ~ In more ways than one! lol

~ and, yes, the spewing of profanities is often one of the uncontrollable behaviours that is illustrated with Turrette's Syndrome. ~ and there is nothing comical about that sad scenario.

nice twist at the ending from what I had anticipated!
Though hardly my favorite word from the lips of babes...if you ban it they just use it more often.

Bunches of Honey ~

Swearing was not tolerated in our home. My Mom literally did wash my brother's mouth out with a bar soap for uttering an unmentionable! Mind you, it worked! ~ and his experience kept me on the straight and narrow, as well!

Hugs to you, Honey!

And with this one you proove that Angels have a sense of humour too.
But your write is not simply funny, it reflects one of the toughest issues in education. I love the Grandmother's attitude too in your poem. At a certain age those words seem less offensive and more and more simply colorful.

Linda you are a treat!

Love and hugs.

There was a little boy 3 years old one time, who lived across the street from my parents. He used those "F" words quite a bit. My little nephew (the same age) tried it one time. Needless to say, it didn't go over too well. I just imagine he had heards those words from his alcoholic father.

very cute, Linda!!     Fortunately, my daughter has never been one for spewing the more colorful words, even when she was younger.  However, in the store one day, apparently I was tuning her constant chatter out, trying to remember what I was there for and she had asked me a question more than once already.  Finally, to get my attention, she yelled her question "HEY MOM, WHAT DOES *!@#&* MEAN??"

Smartest Chick ~

Hi, Sue! Profanity was not allowed in our household as I was growing up. (My being all grown up now, is debatable! ) lol

Mind you, my Mom often let the sh.t word slip out. As my children were growing up, I occasionally would let that word slip out as well. Whenever it did, one of my daughters would tell me to say "fiddlesticks" instead! ~ and I have followed her sage advice!

Oh, fiddlesticks!

Thank you for sharing your story!

Love to you, Sweet Sue!

Divine Chaos ~

That literally cracked me up! Out of the mouths of babes! LOL

Coming up with age-appropriate responses can be tricky! However, questions must be answered or they just keep on asking them and getting frustrated. It is best for our children to get their answers to sensitve questions, from us. Otherwise, as they are growing up, they may get their information ~ and ofttimes 'mis-information') from their friends.

Thanx for the haha!
