and love is only one fine star away  ~ Stevie Nicks

in that place
where the ocean once lay
lapping promises

red hills rise
fine stars cover the night bowl
ripe for the picking

there in the lush plain
loves come and gone
are seen again
gray convoluted fossils
half hidden
frightened
guilty

there
a hand reaches
fingers wrap a star

breeze whispers

oh
wrong star

I saw this place... once... upon a dream...
   from a star's distance.

As an unabashed ‘incurable romantic’,
Inveterate/addicted ‘imager',
and a ‘Deep-Time’ geologist and ‘dreamer’…
I can’t help but LOVE this ‘write’!

I am especially fond of:

“…where the ocean once lay
lapping promises”;

“fine stars cover the night bowl
ripe for the picking”;

“in the lush plain
loves come and gone
are …
gray convoluted fossils
half hidden(!)”

AND:

“fingers wrap(ping the) wrong star(!)”

Serious,  long-sustained applause!!

I ran across a phrase today
regarding the Mount Cross...

and had to look it up,
and your poem
reminds me of that image,
something

that can only be seen
in the eye of the lover
and in the heart of a hopeful.

OH Lady,

What a romantic description of promise and hope you write.  The ending was a surprise, but maybe that's what makes love all the more worth while--the waiting, the longing, the promise.  How I love your writing!

That ending......!  Totally unexpected; loved the contrast of extremes.  Keep reaching -- I do believe the right one is out there somewhere.   ....jo
