.

On a cliff
Off Whitefish Bay
Facing East
Toward Sault Sainte Marie

The wooden cabins
Seem especially still
In the last dusk light

There are so few
Cars on the road
This time of year
That often all one will hear
For hours on end is the wind
Rustling the autumn leaves

On some nights
There is only the sound of waves
Lapping the shore
Beneath the glittering stars
A silver moon
So very three dimensional
Slowly gliding above the sea

And some times
Though very rarely
Now and only then if one
Despite himself still believes

There is a gentle echo
In the evening air
Of something almost
Like a forgotten memory
Softly fluttering its wings

.
