Perhaps

Perhaps, at last, the sun will rise today,
And all the stars will ponder their last flight.
Perhaps the moon will go about its way,
A lonely vision now of forlorn grey,
Since shorn of nighttime's backlit, silvered light.

Perhaps your love will hold this old soul fast,
And with that sun will brighten my dark days.
Then, when the moonlight fades from sight at last,
And all my light, as with the stars, is past,
Your poise will carry what my burden weighs.

Perhaps the moon will never shine again.
Perhaps new stars will never prick the night.
Perhaps the sun will fail with withered ken,
And shed the spark that keeps me until when
Your tears, a soothing balm, assuage my fright.

By then, perhaps, these jaded eyes will see,
And hope will quicken, yet, this heart that tires.
Where, if your shining gesture burns for me,
Then all my self-forged chains will have slipped free,
Now shed by what an honest love inspires.

I prefer to be a dreamer among the humblest, with visions to be realized, than lord among those without dreams and desires. -Khalil Gibran

I'm very fond of the word "perhaps" because of the variables it offers but there's something to be said for deciding on one scenario.  Not yet sure what that something is but it will come to me.     Enjoyed your journey through "perhaps".

Unique presentation, the form really flowed.
Emotive and interspective.  The weight of your words carried well their intended message.

A very touching poem! I especially found the above exquisite!

Hi, Honeybunch.

Sorry for the long delay in responding, but my business, my pregnant girlfriend and my family have kept me very busy...not to mention my parent's 50th wedding anniversary.

In any case, thanks for the thoughtful response.  I always enjoy hearing from you.

Thanks, TD.

I worked hard, as always, on this poem, but that doesn't mean that I always hit "the mark."  So thanks for giving me encouragement that I might have actually pulled it off!
