.

The sun rises
Over summer fields

Dew mists
And crosses border fences
To move among houses in town

A crimson cardinal
Perched on the branch
Of a sugar maple
Flights of geese
Under snow white clouds

A car or two
Passes on the road
Yellow buses full of kids
On their way to school

Water at that little lake
That used to be our rendezvous
Laps tall slender rushes
Along the now vacant shore

Somehow
Even though it’s August
It seems to get colder every year

.
