Where the child can be free

Goodbye Peace

I saw the lives lost
and I shared the pain
and the fear,
not of those gone,
for that, I am thankful
I never did understand
(and those who do
have all lost ability
to tell of it).
No, I shared the silence
as well as the unison of cries
with those who lived to lose.

Blood was spilled
and we were afraid
so we cried out for Peace,
and, in Peace's name,
more blood was spilled,
yet Peace was not found.
The search continued
as the streets ran red.
The numbers grew
but still Peace refused to appear.
I have to think that she
grew weary of futility,
leaving for someplace Peace
would be more welcome.

We invited War
hoping he would bring Peace.
He has instead, chosen closer friends.
Death, Fear, and Distrust.
We have failed
and must face a new question.
Shall we persist in failing
or accept a second chance
and invite Peace directly?
