One night,
and then another, and another,
hauled reluctantly by love
on fluent haunches, quivering
over an almond dream, I lean
barefoot into this, my pilgrimage
through the black jaguar paths of November,

the body crouched
with butterflies headlong
on their branches, fading
like the kisses you gave me, exhaled
into the dark, hard at its task,
the body, a hinge over the paths
we have cast like shadows
in a shallow garden of squalor,

masked under the blood-caul
of absences, the soft soul, bays,
it footsoles tied in sinews
under a bonfire of azaleas, sacrosanct
these are not the paths you knew me by,
once upon a dream, innocence
weaned from fairytales
with pockets full of licorice,

we hoard faith, safe, in a fossil,
bunch our fists over this grave earth,
relinquished to the tricks of radiance,
opening the veins between us,
to kiss and kiss and kiss
the slick, dreamy heads of grass,

night-thick, the midsummer wild
with its tree frogs calling in another season,
my soul too weary, now,
these are not the paths you knew me by,
one night, and then another
and another, count me
among the almonds, drink
from my mouth, in dream, dying,

dying, softly, softly…for me.

amazing...how you take each word one step at a time, into a deeply rooted heartfelt story...

like the kisses you gave me, exhaled
into the dark, hard at its task,
the body, a hinge over the paths
we have cast like shadows
in a shallow garden of squalor,

and we pine impatients under a tree
which grows a might spine...soft, but prickly, at times, while moon thoughts
bend and ricochet, back and forth...like
eyes, warm with excitement..and joy
for it comes to us poorly, and leaves lucrativly shining....

now look what you inspired

BabyGirl...sounds very familiar....did you once write in Starlite Cafe, or perhaps another poetry page?  I've seen you before?

Hugs,
Lee J.

LeeJ~

lord..did I move all that in you?  (((thank you, for being open to me)))....that is awesome...

The Caliban poems are posted only on 2 other poetry Boards...one is an EZ Board....the other...Algonquin's Table...which I'm sure you might have read it there...I published the entire series of poems using LULU and it is available thru them....along with many beautiful poems by PIP's own CPat HAIR and quite a few of our collabs on the topic....

The hardcover edition is truly my most treasured book...

I don't know if it's allowed to post a link to it here, but the search item # for it is 632587...at LULU.com..it is published under the Title, The Caliban Ballads by beLLe

Thank you, again...for the beautiful reply.

~Mari~~
