Listening to every heart

0 posted 2007-08-09 10:12 PM

Simply

Mundane chores need another outlet, so the calling
of sparrows pulled my ear to them
and a window’s view spoke volumes:

fill the birdbath, that they may drink ~
spread the seed, that their town bodies
need not travel to the country ~
and then watch the display.

Hurry back they do, these winged brethren of sky
flock among other than their own,
as Jays swoop in, with some pecking order known to them,
as CSI sounds loud in the background,
and I watch now these feathered prints,
each, different, acknowledgeable,
should one peck another to death…

but the sparrows, tinier, they of muted coloring
do not offer this near-sighted voyeur much to note
other than eyeing their hunger, and a possible
acknowledgement of thanks,
thanks for hearing us
thanks for listening
thanks for being, and bringing,
this substance.

Simply, because they make such beautiful noise;
a decision, a choice, was well made;

and even when the squirrel steals away
their reprieve,

I smile.  It is then,

His Colors flare in, to gather, then feed her, his own,
and more, himself, the Male, the hope, the reason, and I
simply smile again, for it bears then, that in all reason,
for that which any season may unfold, without his
colorless mate? Simply nothing would be.

We all need a distraction at times, and what better than from a bird's call? love this. "late"

Indeed, it is refreshing to read your poetry about the "small" things in life.  Through careful perception, they state volumes.  You write of life so appreciatively and eloquently!  You are a marvel, Miss Sunshine!

Sunshine:
Wy are there only 3 comments on this one?

Is it true? Do birds return and congregate at your feeder before gluing on there way?
Does it become "known" in the bird world that your particular feeder is a place where they will always find care, and maybe a kind of refuge?
It's a lovely thought.  But then, I have no idea what birds think.

"Hurry back they do, these winged brethren of sky"

Karilea
matters not where they fly
corn fields, city or desert sky
the rush of wings stirs the heart
yes?
