"Sticks and stones, may break your bones,
but, words can never hurt you."

It is fallible to question
the breaking of your bones,
but, words can be as harmful
as the sticks or as the stones.

when you are bullied,
hurt or are abused,
physical is nothing,
compared to verbal muse.

That statement is a lie,
deciteful and a fib
nobody could ever choose,
a broken heart, over a broken rib.

Words help you communicate,
they also help you love,
They can seem to come from Hell,
or come from up above.

Just be careful how you use them,
please show how you feel,
but, don't get to nasty,
for the pain is oh-so-real.

I much enjoyed this! It was a very nice (and beautifully writ) extension of that old 'fibb-y' adage. Loved it!

In the sight of Love, fear isn't even as great as a single hair:  in the law of Love, everything is offered as a sacrifice

I totally agree with your statement in your poem.
I always had heard it said that words could never hurt you until my daughter brought home a paper about verbal abuse from her school.
They restated the phrase to:
Sticks and bones may break your bones, but words will hurt even worse.

Thanks for sharing.
