The hills now wear but tatters
Remnants of colors not stripped
From the bare of limbs by time and wind
Rustle in fey whispers of being bound to the flesh
Unable yet to leave and lie
In the drifts of brown that hug outcrops
Or drift for the short time allowed
Before sinking into the depths of her that draws crooked lines
Between the shoulders of their lay

The Blue plays ferryman to the season
Passing the one side of life to another as she bathes the bones
Exposed by her running rush to Sea
And leaves chilled the marrow of each day
“One less” in murmur she says to me
as in the carry of another fallen one she plays
a circled eddy of capture belies escape

Some say

It is fate that holds us where we are
Too afraid to swim the cold depths of her
Knowing
We would drown within her arms and be swept along
The edges of those polished bones
Not enough to hold
Yet more than she can swallow whole
These are not days of Julius or Augustus
That might decree us free to wade within the shallows
Letting the feel of her lap around our thighs

This is the Blue of Winter to come
That does not hold the track of foot upon sand
Without the clinch of hand to something more than air

Once upon a million stars ago she was born
And I have cycled here as have the trees
Finding root within the edges of her grace
Lost upon the whispers of her name

She’s held many to her fame
Within the confines of narrow bed
And roiled with passion to words and worlds unknown
To the simple
Such as I
Who come each November remember how it was
To touch heated flesh that might in some shy moment
Be covered to the world
Then revealed to me for a passing glimpse
A memory of once upon a time when moans
Parted lips
Always searching to quench the thirst inside

Us all
Come Past the Journals End

Well, it's been said before,
and most probably will in the future...

it's good to read you again,
and again, and

we will ever be thankful
for the dysfunctional family
that was spawned...

I know I am.

He holds me, still.
