The wraith form she took Lay as diaphanous silk in low swales Allowing her touch to come gently With each inhale of such pale clouds As were born of ground And bound to burn away Once the sun rose high enough To rule the arc of sky Still cool at 5Am with iced points of star I pondered fog again While transposing the drops of rain That shook from Ash limbs last time She reigned the sky and walked tall Across prairies lonely sighs Until I could no longer see the rage of her And was seduced by what lay before my eyes A gentle swell of mist to cover me In fine drops too small to run And cool So cool against my skin She breathed slowly in And began a fade upon wet stems To rise in air a fey ghost of what she’d been When nights had rumbled with tremors of her Suspending the need for moon Somewhere behind a rush of ecstatic winds Racing always to touch and swirl Then whisper softly To the underside of leaves how it is To be born and live With passion from a storm’s heart Always and again Knowing somewhere even rain ends Michael let the dew that formed Upon broad shouldered wings Lie cool upon skin and watched Few clouds of her left upon the memories How it had been with them And shivered as the last run of what she gave Left clear tracks down his spine Then turned his eyes East To watch the sun Rise |
