This Earth, this host
Cares not who, or what walks upon it
We are, to it, merely the latest
But, probably not the last
Of a long list of inhabitants

This Earth, this machine
Will, despite any effort of ours
However benevolent or malicious
Continue on, even after exhausting the fuel
That keeps its furnace burning

This Earth cares not
About extinctions, historical or yet to come
The Dodo, gone because it was guileless
Nearly gone, the scar that left the dinosaurs dead
As surely, will be our manifest traces

This Earth, this carousel
Will continue as it always has, hurrying
Around its circuit, circling a star
That is traveling its own endless arc
Through time uncountable

This Earth, this rock
Does not know we are here

And does not care

David Ignatow considered it
a mark of his own growing up
when he could look
at a mountain as a mountain
and not as a comment on his life

I'm sure the earth does not care except when we make it bleed then it may rise up and toss us all off like dust.

a good commitee can decimate communication.

Smiling here, with a Gaia-lisa glance.
We humans are but a wrinkle on her face, a wart awaiting removal by some master surgeon, if not something sloughed off from a future face scrubbing?

You're right... the caring is ours. *S* And with that caring comes responsibility... to care for even that which doesn't care. *S*

Hmmmm... I think that describes my love life?  LOL

It's great to see you back... you and your fine work have been greatly missed! *S*

Such truer words may never have been spoken. We are but a particle of dust in this infinate universe

m'self? I think this Earth is alive. (ahem--I take that witch stuff seriously yanno)

My take on it is we're more like fleas on a dog...fleas can kill a dog too.

It really doesn't matter if she is a rock, or a Goddess--she just needs some simple respect.

I love ya yeti--but oh my river-dweller, be cautious about the shake of fist. Y'don't know what you got, until it's either gone, or over your head.

I chide you now, because I know you have more than a healthy respect for her. In fact, your relationship with her so intimate as to be questionable.

shush--you know how I love you!

ah~~~
now see bro.... to me even stone and rock has an awareness.. not the sort we do perhaps..and perhaps on a different plane altogether.. but I agree with Ser... the earth is alive..as is the river..

what they know and are aware of.. what they care about..is not done in the same sense perhaps you and I might.... but..I believe it knows..and that it cares.. in its own ways.. its own time...

Ed, the river, she whispers...the mountains, they listen....and you sir, speak in a way that moves me when I read you.  Much enjoyed this.

Many thanks to all taking the time to comment on this...

Ron? Karenity?

The chiding is accepted

Though, you two know me better than most..and know I feel the god/source/power/reason/purpose resides in all things...This is less a refutation of globalwarming and/or otherevils humans have visited on this our home, our exile, our prison, than it is an affirmation of human arrogance and ignorance...

You know, too, I have very little use and scant love for the preponderance of mankind, though have, until lately, had great hope for us as a species...

I dunno...Its just harder and harder for me to believe "we" are anything more than a happy(?) accident.

A minor footnote in the history of this clockwork of a universe.

Or, maybe its just me feeling infinitely small...

It seems a waste to have spent several billion years preparing this planet for the likes of us....(Yes, I know what an eyeblink a billion years is in the big picture)

On the other hand, maybe it IS a mere 6,000 years old.

*grin*
