This song is a promise,
a sonnet for the river,
as it streams in Pythagoras of absence
your lips allude to a softer sound,

there are cages for every element, my love,

these impatiens will falter in the dark,
swelter in the dusty kettle of our time,

here, the doors swell in their jambs,
every kiss is prison, this
wrecked devotion ascends
in tendrils of bluestem and aster, flails
as my body writhes in its confines,
nevermind

the screaming in the syrinx
of the night-blue thrush,
as if torn flesh were given voice,
a bird within a beast,
nevermind

this beetle in my mouth,
it is gentle
and shimmering,
this morning

is a murder of crows,
stilled, black plumage,
gleaming among black branches,
taken for nocturnal leaves,
Eden’s anemones

like candles in the creases of night,
spill their grave of light
upon a bombarded garden,
the stench of fever is scarlet
and pliant in a pinwheel heart,

as lockjaw unfastens
its kiss,
this kiss,
an absinthe slip of ribbons,

an entire alphabet falls silent,
the night is copper-tongued and shaken,
and you say I am,
impossibly lovely
in shambles,

the night grows shackles
against the songbird’s cuttlebone,
and every kiss is prison,
                      every kiss,
                        this bliss.

I think this is my first read of you
and let me tell you, I believe I have
most certainly been missing out.
This is absolutely stunning

a fine ‘write’….a grand ‘read’!

I absolutely LOVE:

“This song is a promise,
a sonnet for the river” ;

“there are cages for every element”;

“candles in the creases of night”;

pliant in a pinwheel heart;

“the night is copper-tongued and shaken,
and you say I am,
impossibly lovely
in shambles”

serious, sustained applause!!

bel1e, it amazes me how differently all our minds atune to life, complex and stunning, thought provoking and image sending, it is wonderful that gifts from others are recieved as was this to me from you, very much enjoyed my friend, each line made me think, but I was taken somewhere and then left to ponder. Thank you for sharing.
