(Here's a new summer sing-along for y'all, yay! )

Key Lime Piety
By: Noah Eaton
7/30/07

I’ve been extending my misspent youth,
skipping stones across the blue lagoon,
you might say I’ve become a seaside sleuth,
exploring tidal pools along the coast every afternoon,
every weekend I borrow my friend’s pick-up truck,
loading it with enough sand to wiggle my toes in,
pull up a couple old beach chairs,
and let the laying low liberty begin.

So I head south down U.S 1,
jumping the bucket all the way to Key West,
on a dream getaway to an impeccable mecca,
the toy chest of Fantasy Fests,
hanging out with locals at Captain Tony’s Saloon,
out until four A.M doing the Duval Crawl,
then lay back, relaxing in the Caribbean sun,
or play some beach ball volleyball.

I’ll take my pursuit of leisure off to a flying start,
from the Mallory Dock to the Half Shell Raw Bar.

Spending summer afternoons down on Higg’s Beach,
where the jolly mon sing and the seagulls preach,
sipping on a boat drink, sporting a straw sombrero,
laying down mainland hassles with all the gueros,
arm-wrestling with all of Hemingway’s descendents,
escaping into paradise without a flight attendant,
umbilically connected to this tropical fantasy,
where the jungle drum hymns always bear repeating…

…yeah, yeah,
I’m leading a life of key life piety…

…yeah, yeah,
I’m leading a life of key life piety…

I’m gonna mingle with all the Sloppy Joe look-alikes,
spend Sundays chanting at Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine,
I’m gonna take part in every lobster diving rodeo,
and add coconut telegraphing to my portfolio,
I’m gonna breathe in some of Pat Groce’s Pirate Soul,
trip aboard each sunny day with the Parrothead Patrol,
gonna snorkel to the bottom of Nine Foot Stake,
watch the dolphins all along Florida Bay.

I’ll take my pursuit of leisure off to a flying start,
from the Mallory Dock to the Half Shell Raw Bar.

Spending summer afternoons down on Higg’s Beach,
where the jolly mon sing and the seagulls preach,
sipping on a boat drink, sporting a straw sombrero,
laying down mainland hassles with all the gueros,
arm-wrestling with all of Hemingway’s descendents,
escaping into paradise without a flight attendant,
umbilically connected to this tropical fantasy,
where the jungle drum hymns always bear repeating,
going sailing every morning on the Schooner Liberty,
sporting the latest island fashion at Fast Buck Freddie’s,
thank God this instant vacation’s always in reach,
at the end of the rainbow, at the fingertips of the Keys…

…yeah, yeah,
I’m leading a life of key life piety…

…yeah, yeah,
I’m leading a life of key life piety…

I’m gonna come for the sun, stay for Goombay,
let the libations pour at the Duval Street Promenade,
sway the afternoon away in a palm tree tire swing,
with my key lime pie and my mango drink.

Spending summer afternoons down on Higg’s Beach,
where the jolly mon sing and the seagulls preach,
sipping on a boat drink, sporting a straw sombrero,
laying down mainland hassles with all the gueros,
arm-wrestling with all of Hemingway’s descendents,
escaping into paradise without a flight attendant,
umbilically connected to this tropical fantasy,
where the jungle drum hymns always bear repeating,
going sailing every morning on the Schooner Liberty,
sporting the latest island fashion at Fast Buck Freddie’s,
thank God this instant vacation’s always in reach,
at the end of the rainbow, at the fingertips of the Keys…

…yeah, yeah,
I’m leading a life of key life piety…

…yeah, yeah,
I’m leading a life of key life piety…

Thanks, Noah! I needed that! I have been wanting to go Key West and you've just taken me there! Yeah! Doing the Limey Dance!

By the way, I eat at least one large lime ~ or several teeny weeny key ones ~ every day! I squeeze them on everything!

Loves 'n Limes,

Linda
