I was tiptoing back through the archives and came across this one, which brought back some nice memories. We were all aghast to discover uponlog-in that day that Open forum #1 was closed and were were now at Forum #2! Many of us didn't even know that there would be anything other than only one forum.Today, and over forty forums and eight years later, here we are. Hats off to you all. Here's the link to the original if you want to read some fun replies...
/main/forumdisplay.cgi?action=displayarchive&number=18&topic=000031

They say that Open 1 is gone.
How foolish can they be?
For every word on every page
Is here in front of me.

Although the pages are not there
For me to really see
Their words will live forevermore
Within my memory.

Look! Right here! Page eleven
That's where my entrance began
A rescue from obscurity
By the ever-seeking Nan.

Responses that were given me
Gave me a sense of pride.
They opened up their friendly door
And welcomed me inside.

Page 32...the poems we wrote
For Independence Day,
Displaying love of country
In a beautiful array.

Now here's a poem that made me laugh
And that one made me cry.
I tried to answer every one
With some sincere reply.

And look how we replied!
We shot our poems back and forth!
On fellowship we shared in here
I cannot place a worth.

Page 62 is special. It's
Our first Community Poem,
A valiant joint endeavor
By the folks who call this home.

Here's PoetWheel coming by
To see us his first time.
He cracked us up and teased us with
The way he wrote his rhyme.

You can trace a poet's progress
From his first time posted rhyme
And watch as he matured and grew
Up to the present time.

A poet's life could be displayed
For everyone to see.
Let's take, in point, the simple case
Of sea of OKC.

Now sea, he posted poems of love
And Lady sea did, too.
After a while, our buddy, sea
Just disappeared from view.

Then Lady sea came back and posted
sea's old poems, alone.
All in a row, she posted them
(With comments of her own).

The sea of OKC came back
And posted on his own
Some poems of loss and emptiness
And being on his own.

So she was here and he was here,
Then they fell out of touch.
The she came back - then he came back..
This place is just too much!!!

We got to know our poets well.
We got to know them through
Emotions and experiences
That they put in full view.

We sympathized with failing health,
With lives that had gone wrong,
And, through our words of caring, we
Helped make each other strong.

Toerag showed up on #83
With Suthern right along.
Not far behind was Lorelei
Along with her Long John.

So many poets came and went.
So many poets stayed.
So many voices formed a wonderous
Passionate parade.

And now Book one is history.
It's faded now from view.
We find that we have moved along
To Open number two.

But memories it left behind
And friendships that it made
Will rest so deeply in our minds
That they will never fade.

So...out with the old - in with the new
Is the song we now must sing.
There was so much fun with number one
Let's see what two will bring!!!

Mikie!
That was before my time but fun to read. Thanks.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane,
I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

This brought back some memories Michael almost all of them good (there was that Toe bloke after all).

I believe I joined the same week you did, under another name of course, which is probably why my memories run fairly close to your own regarding the site at that time.

The place has certainly got busy hasn’t it? I was trying to work out the other day if it’s actually got better at the same time, I tend to believe it has or at the very least it’s managed not to lose the appeal it had as it grew.

Hopefully I’ll be saying the same thing in a reply eight years from now and hopefully you’ll still be around posting great poems for me to reply on.

(Better make it four, just in case, neither of us is getting any younger)

Wonderful Michael!  There are some gems in the archives here, and I for one wish I had more time to get in there.

One thing about this site, the more things change, the more it stays the same.

Boy, oh boy... does this ever bring back memories! *S* And reading the responses on the original was bittersweet... I laughed again over the great TP dispute... and cried a bit just seeing Becky's name. Back then, I thought we were family... now, I know we are. *S*

I do hope that Ron has bronzed page 83??? LOL It was, after all, a turning point for the sanity of PIP... or lack thereof? LOL

Thanks for this trip down memory lane, Deer One... *smooch*

My memories of poets dear
Don't go as far as yours
But once in a while I take a trip
To the archives smallest stores

Reading all that was ever written
Would take me several years
But I just know that when I do
I would loose my voice from all the cheers

Thanks Deer, for your sweet words and thanks Ron for setting up this library of poetic gems. I'm proud to be a part of this family.

Like scattered leaves...my words will flow

I'd like to write a poem with you...

even if only for the archives.

I don't know what prompted me
to find a river in the sea,
one of poetic verse so fine
that I thought it, "mine, all mine"...

then I saw the river swell,
as if one was clanging a bell
poets came from near and far,
to hang their words upon a star...

a home to some, a place so caring,
one's refuge became another's daring
and camped upon these shores so fine
was a river made of poet's wine...

encapsulated, engrossed, so enchanted was I...
that still I linger, if only to sigh.

I must admit that I haven't visited here in a while, and I do mean a while. As always you have enlighten me and all with this wonderful journey back down memory lane.  As one of my favorite poets here, you haven't failed me yet.  You've always had a unique way of putting pen to paper and making us laugh, cry, think, or just reminisce as you've done with this posting.  Thank you for the walk memory lane, I got to look at the beauty that was almost forgotten.
