In Your Poetic Mind

When the world has been
reduced to a dark night
                     I will find you--
a taste of ashes floating on  air

light&dark, earth&sky      embrace such
beautiful harmony

a single petal made for words --
     this eternal image
of reflection       on   water

tomorrow I will rise early
to touch the faint spread
of sun
,                as the river flows through
my fingers

my dreams of you
exist just for me
                the very depth of edges
from these walls

that rain, will replace your
tears, in language only
you remember:
under stained glass
and woven colors

scattered over the floor

and through the windows
nothing will move

but the daffodils
folding their stems
to die

Lauren, you always write of sadness in such a lovely way, and one can feel pain through your words.

I love how you think and how you put those thoughts into words.

Powerfully fine, emotive imagery!:

finding someone as a “taste of ashes (!)”;

“touch(ing) the faint spread of sun”;

I am especially fond of:

“my dreams of you
exist just for me
                the very depth of edges
from these walls”;

“stained glass
.... woven colors
scattered over the floor”

AND:

“through the windows
nothing will move

but the daffodils
folding their stems
to die (!)”

“Life”…seems mostly a matter of an on-going
and ever-accelerating attrition (that ‘letting go’
part of your ‘page-ending’ quotation)

This ‘write’ also seems a (universally impressionistic)
“slice of everyperson’s-life dejavu”…making that
rather bittersweet ‘been there too’ connection with, I suspect,
most(?!) readers…

serious and long-sustained applause!!

You dear poet lady, make me sigh.  (That is not easy to do.)  Sent it to the Moth Mother, she will love this one.
