Everyone sees and experiences life
through a personal life-filter
a personal, inviolable thought process
that endlessly creates personal truth
that cannot be gainsaid.

Everyone else will always see the world
uniquely differently than I do
so must I bend my thoughts,
to perceive the heartbeat
of another's story upon the Earth –
a story every bit as true
as the one I tell myself each moment
though expressed in different words.

The ugliness or the beauty;
how they see in the world
will always challenge my truth.
But how can such be judged?
What criteria can be used
to determine the right or wrong of it?
None. There is no right or wrong
outside of judgment.

I can do more than listen
to another’s inner journey
as it is experienced:
I can allow them to use their gift,
their piece of life,
in any way they choose.

If it is destructive (to me)
I’m sure that compassion
has already taken that into consideration –
I can rely on compassion,
a much safer tool than condemnation.

I am particularly fond of the ending!:

I find that most American folk these days do not really even
want to 'truly' listen to other people's 'stories' (let alone "do
more than listen")...they just want an 'audience' for their own 'story'!
