I met a Stranger in the Park

She had the courage to embark
Across  a pathway in the park
Her cane unsure, her footstep slow
But she had nowhere else to go
No, she had nowhere else to go

She made her way around a bend
No pressing matters to attend
And so she stopped beneath a tree
And sat and talked a while with me
For she had nowhere else to be

Her eyes were clear, her words were wise
A youthful beauty in disguise
Her joy had vanished as a wife
Her strength is of forgotten strife
Her passion is the love of life

Perhaps she’ll talk with me again
And spark the fires of my pen
She opened up a place inside
Where tender memories  abide
For she had nothing left to hide

I met by chance a stranger’s face
Among the mass of human race
She warmed my heart unwittingly
Along a path, beneath a tree
For she had nowhere else to be

No hurried step, no anxious face
No hour marked for time or place
No pressing thoughts, no urgent goal
Except to find a hand to hold
And spill the contents of her soul

I too have met Individuals like this.  The challange is to take the time to talk with them, else you will miss the beauty. Well written!

I meet many strangers but in Malls... and it is surprising how much you can learn from them and how enjoyable it is to have a conversation with them.

Nicely done~~

I am finding myself at a place in my life that I am almost that person Lizzie.  I am just always where I am supposed to be, and talk to whomever is there in the boundary.     Wish it were you.  Love ya.

LovelyLizzyLady~

You are such a wonderful poetess to read~

Taking this moment to reflect on your words,
I would venture to say that anyone you meet would not be a 'stranger' for long~

Love you dear lady~

A beautiful but sad story within this poem. I too see and speak to many people as I am of a certan age. I am not in that position yet as I have family and friends but am there for a few who are so alone and anxious to depart this crazy train called life.  Thank you for this poem, latearrival

This is a special encounter so beautifully narrated.  So glad she found someone who took the time to listen - too many lonely people in the world these days.
