I didn't count the distance, didn't measure the miles
Of how far your touch was, your kisses, your smiles.
I didn't count tomorrows and yesterdays gone
But I knew in my heart that you were the one.

I clung to my sorrows, lived buried in pain.
Burnt bridges to ashes then lit them again.
Watched silks turn to sackcloth caught tears for fun,
All the time knowing that you were the one.

I watched as the seconds ticked my life away
As I juggled each hour to fill out each day,
Catching minutes of maybes and flashes of sun
Content in the knowledge that you were the one.

Alone I sit cradling dreams in the night
As they melt in the darkness to smother the light
Of the could have and should haves that I left undone
Finding someone has left me and you are the one.

Grinch, this was just so wonderful, I loved it all, sad but a pleasure to read, thank you for sharing your pen my friend.

Sigh, Grinch...the quintessential lost-love ending!  But what a beautifully written heartache.

I feel I've lived your poem... am still dwelling in this last verse. *S* And you've written both the magic and the melancholy perfectly!!
