Toy Soldiers
~ Linda L. Dowd ~

Tiny
wooden soldiers,
standing in
a row.
Eyes staring
forward,
into the eyes
of foe.

Painted
tin-man soldiers,
with rifles
raised up high.
If you really listen,
you can hear
their battle
cry.

Little
toy soldiers,
are facing one
another.
As it is
with every war,
it's brother fighting
brother.

*~*

Some
are made from
wood,
some
are made from
tin.
But a soldier
is a soldier,
no matter
the uniform
he's in.

+++

It's time for Man
to lay down his arms
and pick up each other.

Oh I like this especially the part about "brother fighting brother." So simple and so true

Very good. I like this piece a lot.

I think it would read better if the lines were written as couplets.

Jess ~

I like to think of all men and women as brothers and sisters.

I find it especially horrific when brothers are literally fighting each other ~ as was the case in the American Civil War.

Territorial lines not only divide lands, they often separate families.

Thank you for dropping by!

Bronzeage ~

Hi, there! Welcome aboard the PiP Ship!

I agree with you about the poem reading better if I had written it in couplets ~ which is how I had originally written it. However, I thought that by presenting it this way, it had more of an impact ~ both visually and lyrically (less lyrically, actually, which is what I wanted. lol)

I'm pleased that you liked my poem and I trust that you will enjoy being a part of our circle of kindred poetic spirits!

Giving you a warm, welcoming hug,

Earth Angel

I agree,  a poem like this is one that you
can play with and come up with more than one
good answer...   The content does a lot for
the poem...

Barry ~

No matter a soldier's race, country ~ or uniform ~ their blood is all the same colour ~ red. All truly are brothers on this planet, Earth. War is such a sad state of affairs. Brothers truly are pitted against brothers.

The reading rhythm feels more like a march this way than it would if you used couplets... and that adds to the impact! *S*

Beautiful write, my friend... and how I wish we could/would heed the ending!!

You know...I feel like grabbing his ear, and taking Bush to a corner Linda!   I can't believe they are still fighting in that war, and it makes me remember all the men that stayed in our basement avoiding Vietnam so many years ago.  I never considered them cowards I considered them smart then, and even smarter now.

Paul ~

Amen to your "Amen"!

Perhaps if our world leaders had to duke it out with each other in a 'political arena', the warring would stop!

I appreciate your thought-ful response.

I especially appreciate your response, Soldier Man!

Most assuredly, I appreciate the courage, patriotism, and the sacrifice to those in the service of our respective countries.

Giving you an extra big hug-o-love and respect!
