Where no tyranny is tolerable

The Eternal Question

Anybody out there have an antidote
a suggestion, or a palliative
for the malady of Writer's Cramp?
What more might others want to read of me?
Anything? ...
Why, I guess I could go on and on about myself,
trying not to be affected by eye disease.
But would you really want to read of this?
I want to believe I still possess
a reservoir of creativity within.
(as I believe each of us does)
If only I could converse with my own thoughts
(I've tried that and just get nonsense)
or with others who may want to know
what things I maybe take for granted,
and perhaps don't even think about.
If we were to meet in person,
what would you ask me? ...

My well seems, for the moment, low,
my nocturnal dreams
have been too few,
too fragmentary to relate.
Like yesterday's,
in which I rode a train
which stopped, then crossed the border into Canada,
and then, the loveliest voice I have ever heard,
brought tears to my eyes,
as she began to sing Oh Canada,
to which I don't even know the words,
and she was just another passenger,
How I wished I could have gotten her on tape,
an exquisitely tuned musical instrument,
and I am deaf.
But then, so what, such fanciful turkey twiddle twaddle.

This question probably has no answer,
and this problem no solution.
I can only write about
how there isn't anything to write about
or maybe about going to the bathroom? Pooh!
I wish that I could turn on the flow
the inexhaustible well,
find the everlasting flow of wine
in the luxury apartment of my dream,
and the shimmering, creative muse
who loves me there.
What might she say if I were to ask her this?
Patience? ...
For now, I guess,
I must occupy myself with relative nonsense,
like how many times
I might get up in the night for snacks ...
in the mean time.
Maybe I'll write about the evil force of gravity, or something.

Writer's block certainly hasn't
cramped your style, m'friend...

just know, that you can, and do
create, even when you think you
are sitting in twiddle-twaddle.

Jaime,
For the record you have no monopoly on writer's block. I for one hold you in high regard. I'm uncertain of how you access the internet in light of your handicaps. But I have much interest because I am legally blind in one eye which I use only for peripheral vision, which the eye doctor said must really be above average. Yet I find myself half way to blind and an easy candidate for this handicap. I have worked with the blind and have friends who are blind. I have worked with the deaf and have friends who are deaf. I dabbled in braille and found it exceptionally challenging. I knew the alphabet in signing but that was long ago. So, since you asked, I have a question: If a deaf person has a broken hand, does that mean they were yelling? Peace my friend and I don't think it's writer's block if you still have something to post.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane,
I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

"If only I could converse with my own thoughts

Now I'm laughing, in recognition of this self-assessment. Sigh, your writing muse plays hide and seek...but is never really far from you. This write proves you always have worthwhile words to share.
Smile, amigo. It is good to read you today!

Jaime,
Just to prove you're not the only one:

Outlasting Silence
By Larry Chadwick

The silence was enough,
I declared my discontent.
Demanding of my muse,
Exactly what was the intent?

Had my lips been sealed
So that I might learn?
Or was this time of silence
Meant to teach my heart to yearn?

I do not need to move my pencil
If I just create some scribble.
After all, it is not that much fun
To read somebody’s dribble.

So I returned to that blank page
To see what I might find.
Words began to hit the paper,
As I searched deep within my mind.

Now I patiently wait for my muse
To inspire thoughts I treasure.
I find it worth the wait
As it brings me so much pleasure.

"If we were to meet in person,
what would you ask me? ..."

Instead of asking I may just tell you that you are an amazing person - and that's just from the little I know.  And this was a most creative write, by the way, and one I really enjoyed reading.  I'm also up for a snack this night but it's just the dreaded flu.  I never get flu but I guess it's teaching me something like how to overcome as some people like yourself have done.  Hats off to you, Jaime!

you mentioned...seeking a 'palliative'
for the malady of writer's "Cramp"
[I wouldn't worry much!...it shall
naturally pass!...it happens to all
  of us!!]

I wish to find instead...some elixir
for writer's "Crap" [if you peruse
a lot of the (alleged) 'poetry' that
gets 'published' these days]...it is
sorely needed!

Postings on these blue pages (by fine
people like you) come as close to that
'magic elixir' as I have seen!
