This is a repost from 2000.

"A tree, a poem, a candle, and more than a man"

If I were a tree,
You would be my roots.
Pouring life into me,
And I would stand proud.

If I were a poem,
You would be my emotion.
Bringing true passion to otherwise meaningless words.
And I would read so beautifully.

If I were a candle,
You would be my flame.
Giving my existence meaning,
And I would burn so bright.

But I am not a Tree,
Nor am I Poem or Candle.
But because of your entrance into my heart,
I am most certainly not just a man.

The ending really "got" me:
But I am not a Tree,
Nor am I Poem or Candle.
But because of your entrance into my heart,
I am most certainly not just a man.

Enjoyed the loving expressions in your write.

No, you're not just a man ~ you are a poet in the true sense of the word.

You have the soul of a poet ~ with a heart and pen to match.

This ia a poetic gem and the subject of your affection is very fortunate, indeed.

I liked this as well.

Wow, a truly romantic poem for a change. I like it so much I'm going to save it from obscurity.
